2. Regular practice is vital. At least an hour a week. We recommend two hours a week. Ask your instructor how many lessons they think you need.
3. Make sure your driving school helps with studying for your theory test and invest in a good book or CD Rom.
4. Make sure your instructor is fully qualified with the Driving standards agency and holds a green badge, which should be displayed in their windscreen. A pink badge means they’re a trainee.
5. Ensure your driving school uses dual controlled cars that are in good condition and a spare is handy in the event of a breakdown.
6. Find out how long a lesson is and whether pick-ups and dropping off other pupils is part of your lesson.
7. You should apply for your theory test after your first few lessons.
8. Don’t apply for your practical exam until both you and your instructor agree you’re ready. Remember you can’t take your practical exam until you’ve passed the theory test.
9. Make sure you book a final lesson immediately before your test, as this will enable you to get in some last minute practice, smooth over any rough edges and ‘warm up’ for your test.
10. Ensure your driving instructor will be keeping a record of progress linked to the DSA syllabus, as this will guarantee you are fully prepared for anything you may be required to do on the day of the test.
