So you've passed your test. What's next?
Whilst it may not feel like it, passing your driving test is merely the beginning.
Having only taken one or two driving lessons a week means that there are a number
of driving conditions you won't have experienced such as driving at night
and on motorways. In fact it takes years to become a fully competent driver.
Ask any driver, and they'll tell you that even after many years of driving,
there are still a few driving conditions or even road sign rules that they are
unfamiliar with, which is why we recommend the pass plus scheme.
Pass Plus
By taking Pass Plus, you can further improve your driving skills and become
a more confident driver. Specifically designed by the Driving Standard Agency
to be taken within 12 months of passing your test. Pass Plus aims to build upon
your existing driving skills, and it's purpose is to make you a better
driver and reduce your risk at being involved in an accident. The six part course
(each part lasts an hour) and focuses on giving new drivers greater experience
in the following six areas:
• Night driving motorway
• Motorway and dual carriageways
• Out of town
• Rural roads
• All weather driving
• In towns
Although there is no test at the end of the course, in order to be signed off and issued with a Pass Plus certificate from the DSA, your instructor will be looking for a good standard of driving in all six areas and this will cover improved observation, care, courtesy and consideration for other road users. The ability to detect hazards and deal with them appropriately will also be taken into account.

Drivers with a Pass Plus certificate under their belt are considered to be more
confident and well equipped drivers and thus gain from significantly lower car
insurance premiums or extra years no claims bonus with a number of brokers.
For instance, the AA offers up to 35% discount on car insurance premiums to
those who have successfully completed a pass plus programme.
